Household dust contains contaminants that present serious health problems. Allergic reactions and asthma attacks are often linked to molds and toxins found in microscopic dust particles. A good first step towards controlling household dust is replacing your furnace filters frequently with high quality filters that will do more than simply protect your furnace motor.

The most effective filters are made of pleated fabric or paper. They have an electrostatic charge that actually attracts dust and retains it. These high quality filters should be replaced every three months. However, you should check them once a month. If you have pets in your house you may need to change them more frequently. A dirty filter can damage your furnace.
