Travertine Wall Tiles Add a Roman Feel

    Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

One of the most important aspects of Roman villas that make them so endearing is the use of stone. Marble is popular to some extent but another sedimentary rock, Travertine, actually offers more color and texture than can be found with marble. Both these stones are formed by the same carbonic material action but marble usually spends more time underground at a higher pressure and temperature which makes it more dense and harder. This also tends to mute the vibrant colors of the minerals which is why marbles tend to be grey in tone.

Travertine, on the other hand, still will show the extreme hues that can be obtained with the local mineral content of the hot springs where they are formed. These colors range from deep beiges to very bright royal golds. If you are trying to mimic a Roman villa’s look and feel then travertine wall tiles will give you the look you desire.

    Selecting Curtains For Your Room

    Monday, September 14th, 2009

Window treatments can play a major role in the atmosphere of a room. Differing styles of curtains can be used to create many different looks. Changing your curtains can be an easy and inexpensive way to update a room. Here are some of the things to consider when choosing curtains:

Colour: Curtains that are the same shade as your walls or close to the same shade will give the room a unified, open feel. This is useful for small rooms, since it will make them seem larger. Curtains in a contrasting colour will break up a room, which adds drama to large, formal rooms. Contrasting curtains can also be used to draw attention to the window, creating a focal point for your room. Light curtains will give an airy feel and allow more light to enter the room, while dark curtains will make a room look cozy.
